About This Special Issue

The 2018 NSCITF Report on Digital Influencing for CVE analyzes the current challenges presented by extremist groups and nation state adversaries in cyberspace to the US Government. To illustrate these challenges, this report presents a case study of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIL) digital activity. It analyzes its messaging techniques in the digital space, examines specific methods to counter the group’s online activities, and ultimately makes proposals about how to counter its messaging in the long term.
